Welcome to the new Cocoa Controls blog! I’m hoping that this will develop as well as the rest of the site has. I’ve been meaning to launch the blog for a few weeks now, but various and sundry other issues have caught my attention.
Feedback
- Replace Facebook comments with Disqus – Thanks to @taoeffect and @testaccountyep for mentioning this. As you can see, the blog is using Disqus, and I will transition the Controls pages over to Disqus as soon as I have an opportunity to write a script for pulling data out of the Facebook Graph API and into Wordpress’ WxR format (which seems to be what Disqus likes to import best).
- A site for Android controls – This really is coming soon. I’ve started trolling through Github’s Java repositories that contain the word “Android” to see what I can find. I’d like to stock the site with a decent amount of content before I actually ‘launch’ it, so bear that in mind.
Traffic
Holy moley! I’m frankly kind of shocked by how much traffic the site has seen since April 24, which was the day a link to the site appeared on the front page of Hacker News. You can see the specifics on the Stats page, which is in the footer of every page on the site. But, the gist is that we’re now averaging about:
- 1,000 visits per day.
- 5,000 pageviews per day.
And that’s after the big bounce from HN finally faded.
Controls
There’s been a lot of really cool stuff posted this week. Here are just a couple of my favorites:
- iCarousel – A genericized carousel control that can do the coverflow effect, along with several other layout styles that put it to shame!
- CA360 – A ton of Core Animation demos. I’ve barely had time to scratch the surface on this, and I’ve already learned a ton.
- SSMessagesViewController – An incredibly well-done copy of Apple’s Messages.app UI.
Finally, I want to give a special shout-out to @mugunthkumar (Github), who’s been putting together some really spectacular stuff.
Meta
I usually hate blogging about blogging but, since this is the first real post on here, I shall indulge myself for a moment. I’m hoping to regularly post updates like this, along with irregularly posting tips, tricks and tutorials on whatever Cocoa UI-related subject strikes my fancy.
If you have any inclination in seeing your name appear in a blog post here, please hit me up via the about page or in the comments below, and we’ll see what we can work out.
